Mid-Atlantic Innovation Celebration Names Trabus Technologies Innovator of the Year

Tysons Corner, VA (May 12, 2022) – The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce (Northern Virginia Chamber) and CONNECTpreneur named Trabus Technologies (TRABUS) Innovator of the Year during today’s Mid-Atlantic Innovation Celebration Awards (Innovation Awards).

The Mid-Atlantic Innovation Awards are a joint production of the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Chamber of Commerce and CONNECTpreneur. Created to showcase innovations in business, the Innovation Awards highlight ingenuity and creativity in key categories in addition to the overall awards: Education Technology, Biotechnology, Communications Technology, Environmental Technology, Health & Beauty Consumer Products, Home Consumer Product, Workforce, Healthcare IT, and Medical Device. With 26 finalists to choose from, representing vastly different industries and business types, a panel of 12 regional business leaders in relevant industries served as the judges that selected TRABUS’ spectrally efficient peer-to-peer (SEPP) technology (commercially known as PeerConnect) as the innovation of the year.

SEPP allows for device-to-device communications without the need for cell towers or a central controller and can be ported onto commercial mobile devices allowing for an instantaneous private network "off grid.” The patented technology uses its own network during loss of power or commercial infrastructure failure and will be invaluable during scenarios such as natural disasters.

When asked why innovation is important to business, Art Salindong, the company’s managing director and the program manager leading the SEPP/PeerConnect effort said: “Innovation is important to business because it can disrupt industries. Innovation creates new ways of doing the same old things, better. Creativity generates new ideas. Implementation of these ideas requires planning, teamwork, optimism, and execution. Executing on both creativity and implementation will result in innovation.”

“Our region’s businesses continuously demonstrate their innovation, brilliance and resourcefulness in pushing forward, be it in product development, improving a system or process, or developing technology that saves lives,” said Northern Virginia Chamber President and CEO, Julie Coons. “We’ve all experienced how invaluable an innovative mindset can be in a vibrant, growing economy. The Northern Virginia Chamber and CONNECTpreneur were excited to recognize our finalists’ achievements in a fun-filled, camaraderie-focused event.”
